Jazz Bands
Jazz is by far our forte. It is the most versatile group as it can deliver smooth background music, render romatic songs, pump lively beats onto the dance floor and more. The majority of our live performances are jazz oriented, come enjoy the music.
The following instruments are available as members of a jazz band:
-
Vocals
A lot of Jazz standard repertoire are songs with lyrics. Vocals is a natural addition to make jazz a more communicative medium.
-
Saxophone
Signature jazz sound and mood come mostly from this instrument from the woodwind family
-
Trumpet
Another instrument that often fronts the band and convey the melodies
-
Flute
Used more for the Bossa Nova and other lighter jazz. It presents a stark contrast to the intense sound of the saxophone
- Piano / Keyboard
Provides the essential harmony and accompaniment . The acoustic piano is the most authentic instrument in jazz while the keyboard brings are wider variety of sounds.
-
Guitar
Functions more or less the same as the piano but usually with a more rhymic feel.
-
Upright Bass / Electric Bass
Considered indispensible in a jazz as the bridge for the melodic and rhythm sections. The upright bass has a great acoustic sound suitable for all kinds of music while the electric bass is more at home with the more modern side of jazz
-
Drums
Jazz in its early days were often played as a form of dance music. Drums have therefore been part of jazz all along. Jazz drumming can be extremely light and unobtrusive, and at times heavy and powerful.
- Percussions
Usually used more for the latin-influenced jazz, such as Bossa Nova, Samba and other Cuban flavours.
Our jazz band may be made up of any of the above instruments. The most common combination is a 4-piece (saxophone, piano, upright bass & drums). Our demo DVD showcases many others. Live recordings available from the music player at the upper right-hand corner on this webpage.
